Warrants out for suspects in Iranian center attack

BEIRUT: Military Investigative Judge Fadi Sawwan Monday issued four arrest warrants in absentia against suspects allegedly involved in this year’s attack against the Iranian Cultural Center in Beirut.

Sawwan accused the four of belonging to a terrorist organization with the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks and of playing a role in the Feb. 19 double suicide bombings that killed and wounded dozens.

They were also charged with murder, attempted under, and possession of arms and bombs.

Sawwan also interrogated a Palestinian national and a Lebanese citizen suspected of partaking in attacks against the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon.

He then issued arrest warrants against Bilal Kayed, a Palestinian, and Lebanese Akram Yassine.

UNIFIL has been the target of a number of roadside bombings in the country, including one in 2011 in which five French peacekeepers were wounded.
