TRIPOLI, Lebanon: France’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Patrice Paoli, urged Monday Lebanese lawmakers to elect a president on time.
“We call on all political officials and parties to do their part by participating in the voting sessions to elect a new head of state, and we hope that Lebanon will have a president within the Constitutional framework,” Paoli told reporters in the northern city of Tripoli.
Paoli visited Tripoli City Hall to follow up on a project sponsored by the French government at the Office of Vocational Training that is run by the Tripoli Municipality.
He said that despite several rounds of gunbattles in Tripoli linked to the crisis in Syria, the French would not abandon Lebanon’s second largest city.
Paoli said France was also present through some decentralized cooperation projects between regions and cities, as well as through projects related to Tripoli’s heritage and important symbols in the city.
