Lebanese-Syrian couple killed in suspect tent fire

BEIRUT: A Lebanese husband and his Syrian wife burned to death when their tent was allegedly set on fire overnight in the east Bekaa Valley village of Delhamiyeh, security forces told The Daily Star.

The charred remains of of Nayef Bou Eid, 56, and his 45-year-old second wife Khadija were found Monday in the burned-out tent with a half-filled canister of gasoline nearby, indicating the fire was intentional.

The apparent attack comes just days after Bou Eid's daughter, one of four children from his first wife, was kidnapped, allegedly by a criminal ring of Lebanese and Syrian nationals.

Authorities are searching for the suspects, who are thought to be behind the attack on Bou Eid and his wife. The couple worked for a local landowner named Ali Youssef Sahili, had been married for seven years and were not seeking refugee status for Khadija, the sources added.
