Bassil inaugurates 'Expat Forest' in n. Lebanon

BEIRUT: Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil inaugurated Sunday the Expat Forest in the north Lebanon district of Batroun in the presence of dozens of Lebanese expats and officials.

The forest, located in the Batroun town of Shanine, is an initiative from the Foreign Ministry.

Over 150 expats attended the event, during which Bassil planted the forest's first cedar tree. The project, in cooperation with Jouzour environmental association, aims to plant cedar trees in the name of expats.

The minister explained the mechanism for expats to register their names for having their tree in the forest.

Bassil said that “expats would feel they left a cedar tree behind in their homeland and can take care of it via communication through the Internet or during visits to Lebanon.”
