Body of Syrian child found near Akkar dumpster

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: The body of a 5-year-old Syrian child was found Thursday near a dumpster in the north Lebanon region of Akkar, security sources told The Daily Star.

The boy was found stabbed and put in a box, his head covered with a black bag, near a dumpster at the entrance of a school in the Akkar village of Halba.

The National News Agency identified the child as Mohammad al-Khawli. It said security forces were able to identify the killer as N.A., a man who owns a bakery in the region.

The suspected killer turned in himself to the security forces, the NNA said.

Investigators were inspecting the bakery, the NNA said, while security forces were still waiting for the medical examiner to arrive.
