BEIRUT: The Future Movement supports the civil servants' demand for a wage hike, a lawmaker from the bloc said Sunday.
“The Future Movement stands by the workers and employees in the salary scale issue, and the evidence for that is that the parliamentary committee is conducting its work very quickly,” MP Kazem Kheir said during a meeting with popular delegations in Minyeh, north Lebanon.
“The committee was established to endorse the salary bill away from political bids and without damaging the country’s economy."
The head of the Future bloc, former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, suggested last month forming a committee to restudy the controversial salary scale bill, estimated to cost the state more than $1.4 billion. Parliament approved the proposal, and a committee is currently working on revising the bill.
