BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora has filed a lawsuit against former minister Wiam Wahhab, who accused him of being an Israeli agent.
“When you listen to Fouad al-Siniora, you would say that this man is part of the Israeli project,” Wahhab said in an interview with Al-Jadeed TV Wednesday.
“The only way Siniora can become prime minister if the Israeli plan succeeds in the region."
When asked by the host Nancy al-Sabeh if he actually believed that Siniora was part of the Israeli project, Wahhab replied: “In my opinion, yes [he is].”
Wahhab said that Siniora knows the only way that he can become prime minister again is if Israel eliminates Hezbollah and the U.S. eliminates the Syrian regime.
Wahhab then accused the former prime minister of working for his personal interest only and "against his own party.”
Siniora sued Wahhab over the comments at the State Prosecution Office, accusing him of slander and defamation.
State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud referred the case to General Attorney Judge Imad Qabalan, who decided to hold a hearing next week.
Wahhab, a Druze politician known for his strong support to the Syrian regime, heads the Arab Tawhid Party.
