BAALBEK: A defected Syrian army officer and a Lebanese Army officer have been detained on suspicions they provided logistical and material support to Syrian rebels deployed along Lebanon's border with Syria.
The Lebanese Army arrested the two suspects in the Baalbek town of Fakiha last week, security sources said.
The defected Syrian officer was arrested for running a recruitment network for the Free Syrian Army. The sources told The Daily Star that the unnamed former officer recruits fighters for the FSA with the assistance of a number of Lebanese citizens, and provides them with weapons.
The Army also arrested his alleged accomplice, Lebanese military officer Maj. Mohammad Ibrahim Kabar, the sources added.
The two are being held by General Security.
