BAALBEK, Lebanon: The mayor of the eastern city of Baablek was shot in the legs by unidentified gunmen Monday, a security source said.
The source told The Daily Star that at about 8:30 a.m., gunmen in a Honda-CRV approached Mohammad Awada’s car, opened the door and fired their guns, hitting the mayor in the legs.
The shooting in the Baalbek neighborhood of Ras Al-Ain was the result of a personal dispute, according to the source.
Awada was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the source added.
