Health Ministry shuts down butchery in Sidon

BEIRUT: Health Ministry inspectors shut down a butchery and destroyed large quantities of expired foods in many shops in the southern city of Sidon Saturday.

Minister Wael Abu Faour ordered the closure of al-Reef Butchery in the Taamir neighborhood of Sidon after the inspectors found sausages and minced meat that violated safety standards, the ministry announced in a statement.

The butchery’s owners attempted to prevent the inspectors from shutting down his business, which prompted police to intervene.

The inspectors also raided other establishments in the coastal city, closing the dairy products department in al-Majzoub and al-Khadra supermarkets, the statement added.

They also destroyed quantities of expired chicken liver found in al-Rawwas market, and closed the Qashta section of Al-Baba Special Sweets’ two branches in Sidon.
