Construction worker falls on metal rods, survives

BEIRUT: A worker was hospitalized Saturday after falling from the second floor of a construction site northeast of Beirut and landing on two metal construction rods that pierced his stomach, medics said.

A spokesperson from the intensive care unit at Serhal Hospital in Rabieh told The Daily Star the patient underwent surgery after the fall.

The two rods pierced his stomach but did not exit from his back, the spokesperson said.

Lebanon’s Civil Defense wrote on Twitter that the accident occurred in the nearby town of al-Bayyadah, cautioning that his injuries were life threatening.

But the hospital official said that the surgery was successful, indicating that he was not in danger of dying.
