BEIRUT: The widely-hailed dialogue between high ranking officials from Hezbollah and the Future Movement resumed Monday at Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri’s residence in Beirut.
The session launched the second round of talks of the dialogue, which kicked off late-last month with the hope of mending ties after years of sour relations between the two parties.
Figures from the mostly-Sunni Future Movement and Shiite Hezbollah have repeatedly said that the dialogue was aimed at easing sectarian tensions in the country.
Relations between the parties nosedived after the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, who founded the Future Movement.
Future MP Ahmad Fatfat earlier in the day said that "no one in the Future Movement has high expectations with regard to long-term achievements.”
EU Ambassador to Lebanon Angelina Eichhorst Monday said the European Union “welcomes” the dialogue and that it sends a positive message to the other parties and the public in Lebanon.
The Future Movement is represented by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's chief of staff Nader Hariri, Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk and MP Samir Jisr.
Hezbollah is being represented by Hussein Khalil, a political aide to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan and MP Hasan Fadlallah.
