Bassil lauds Dar al-Fatwa for commitment to tolerance

BEIRUT: Dar al-Fatwa is a national institution for all Lebanese, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said Monday, hailing the establishment for its declarations of tolerance and coexistence.

Bassil visited Dar al- Fatwa to congratulate Lebanon’s new Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian on his post, after being elected in August. “More importantly,” the visit pays homage to the top Sunni institution for being “a house for all the Lebanese, and the first, second and third speeches we have heard from the Grand Mufti proved that,” the foreign minister told reporters after the meet.

Bassil said that that Dar al-Fatwa sets high hopes for the unity of the Lebanese people in “facing all the forces of evil lurking in the [country] and the region.”

In further glorification, the foreign minister said that the institution offers “salvation from the national and regional crisis” by embracing the “convergence between human beings [despite] their various affiliations.”

“This house is not only a Muslim institution, but also a national institution for all the Lebanese,” he added, emphasizing that Dar al-Fatwa breeds a “sense of tolerance and an acceptance of others.”
