BEIRUT: Three grenades blasted in Tripoli Sunday night only a couple of days after Friday’s identical act of vandalism, and the perpetrators have not yet been caught, a security source told The Daily Star.
The first grenade exploded close to a gas station in the Baal al-Darawish neighborhood around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Half an hour after midnight, another grenade was thrown near the residence of the Attal family in Jabal al-Biddawi. It caused slight material damage at the sight of the explosion.
Inhabitants of the Mankoubin area were the next awoken, when a grenade exploded at 1:30 a.m. Monday near the Mankoubin soccer field.
No casualties were reported.
This came three days after a similar incident rattled Tripoli in its sleep, where three grenades were similarly thrown around the city, also without causing any casualties.
Lebanese troops have patrolled the streets in search of the attackers.
The overnight violence marred a two-month old security plan for Tripoli in which security forces deployed en masse to restore stability to Lebanon's second-largest city, following at least 20 rounds of gun battles related to the Syrian crisis.
