SEOUL: Police in South Korea say Lebanon's ambassador to the Asian country has died in a car accident.
Officers say Ambassador Jad Saeed al-Hassan was driving his car by himself Thursday when it hit another vehicle inside a tunnel in Seoul. They say two South Koreans in the second car were injured and taken to a hospital. The officers spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department rules.
Other details about the accident were not immediately known, including what caused the ambassador's car to hit the other vehicle.
A person at the Lebanese Embassy in Seoul reached by phone confirmed the ambassador's death but refused to provide further details.
Hassan took over as ambassador to South Korea in April 2013.
He hails from Koura in north Lebanon.
