Egyptian expats cast their votes in Beirut

BEIRUT: A thousand Egyptian expatriates cast ballots in Lebanon Sunday, the last day of overseas voting for Egypt’s coming presidential election.

A statement from the Egyptian Embassy in Lebanon said 1,000 nationals were able to cast their votes, while another 100 had problems with their documents and could not cast their ballots.

The number of total Egyptian voters in Lebanon reached 3,593, the embassy said.

The four-day period for overseas voting ends Sunday and the presidential vote is scheduled to open in Egypt May 26-27.

Egypt’s former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and leftist leader Hamdeen Sabahi are running to replace ousted President Mohammad Morsi.
