HERMEL, Lebanon: The Lebanese Army Saturday raided the house of Sami Atrash in northeast Lebanon just days after the terror suspect was fatally wounded, a security source told The Daily Star.
The source said 19 stolen vehicles were confiscated during the raid of Atrash’s house in Wadi Hmayyed in the northeastern border town of Arsal.
Atrash was wounded Thursday in Arsal during a shootout with the Lebanese military and later died in hospital.
Described as wanted and dangerous, Atrash had been accused of preparing explosive-rigged vehicles, firing rockets into Lebanese villages and towns, killing Army officers and cooperating with rebel groups fighting in Syria.
Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television has said that a number of the explosive-rigged vehicles were used in suicide car bombings targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs, areas closely associated with the party.
