BEIRUT: Investigative Judge Ghassan Oueidat Saturday issued arrest warrants against four National Social Security Fund employees and two brokers over alleged embezzlement of public funds.
The judge issued the warrants after interrogating the six individuals who are in custody.
The six along with another employee are accused of embezzling public funds, attempting to destroy NSSF documents and clearing records of companies owing money to the Fund.
The prosecutor’s office is still studying the case of the fifth NSSF employee to see whether she had a role in the alleged scheme, a judicial source said.
The Internal Security Forces raided the NSSF office in Wataa al-Msaitbeh last week and detained several people. The raid came after authorities were alerted to a possible attempt to destroy NSSF documents that could be used in an ongoing embezzlement probe by Lebanon’s financial prosecutor.
