Health Minister refers two to the judiciary over fraud

BEIRUT: Health Minister Wael Abu Faour referred Monday to the judiciary the names of two people who forged medical prescriptions to benefit from medications that the ministry makes available free of charge.

The minister revealed in a statement issued Monday that two Lebanese citizens with initials A.S., and Y. S. had submitted to the ministry medical files “prepared without any scientific logic.”

After the specialized scientific committee of the ministry discovered the violations in the files, they contacted the doctor who prescribed the medications who denied that he had ever written the prescriptions.

The doctor filed a lawsuit against the two "patients" at the State Prosecution and the Doctors’ Union.

The statement said the two suspects then submitted other requests for medication with the signature of a different doctor, who later revealed that his signature and stamp on the prescriptions were forged.

Abu Faour asked the state prosecutor to follow up on the case.
