Sidon dessert shop fined after food poisoning

BEIRUT: The Health Ministry fined a dessert shop in the coastal city of Sidon for a health violation Sunday, ordering the store to improve conditions within 15 days or face closure, a day after a family suffered food poisoning.

In a statement, the ministry said it gave the dessert shop the ultimatum after a family of four was hospitalized for food poisoning after eating ashta served at the store.

A ministry team inspected the shop and took samples of the food there for laboratory testing, the statement said, adding that the store was in violation of sanitation and health standards.

The team fined the shop, giving it 15 days to fix the violations or face closure, adding that the ministry might be forced to shut down the shop after results of the lab tests were finalized.
