Lebanese crash victim found in Cypriot waters

BEIRUT: The body of a Lebanese businessman whose small plane crashed in the sea en route to Beirut from Cyprus has been found, his family said Thursday.

A statement from the family said George Obagi, 47, was found in Cypriot territorial waters.

Obagi was on board the twin-engine Diamond DA 42 plane with his Cypriot trainer when the aircraft disappeared Wednesday evening around 80 kilometers southeast of the coastal town of Larnaca.

Yiannakis Loizou, the chief of Cyprus' aircraft accidents board had said search crews found wreckage belonging to the small plane.

Search efforts to find the second victim are ongoing, Loizou told the Associated Press.

He said a German warship attached to a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon would ferry the wreckage to Cyprus Thursday for Cypriot investigators to begin their probe.

The plane had taken off from an airport near the town of Paphos, on Cyprus' western coast.
