Judge postpones Jomaa interrogation

BEIRUT: The interrogation of suspected ISIS commander Imad Jomaa, who is being held on terror-related charges, has been postponed, a judicial source said Tuesday.

The source said Military Investigative Judge Imad Zein did not set a new date for the next session.

Zein postponed Tuesday’s session after Jomaa’s lawyer, Tareq Shandab, filed a motion in the Beirut military court, saying that confessions by Jomaa and 42 other suspects – charged with belonging to terrorist groups, killing Lebanese soldiers and capturing others – were made under duress.

The lawyer also complained that the defendant had been beaten and was denied a medical checkup.

Jomaa’s arrest earlier this month sparked five days of gunbattles between Syrian militants and the Lebanese Army in the Bekaa Valley border town of Arsal.
