PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- A waterfront fuel farm is coming to Lowry Island as part of a major redevelopment project.
Boaters now have to float over to Gautier to fill up their tanks.
In May, the city council awarded a $2.8 million contract to Moss Point-based M & D Construction Co. for the second phase of the Lowry Island redevelopment project.
The Mississippi Press reports (http://bit.ly/1vSSBkN) the council last week added $210,115 for the fuel farm and extended work by 42 days.
The project is expected to be complete by Feb. 20.
Most of the funding is coming from Hurricane Katrina-related Community Development Block Grant funds.
This second phase of work includes rehabilitation of a boat launch, trees, lighting, fill material, ramps on sidewalks and paving, gravel and asphalt work, among other features.
