DECATUR, Ala. -- A bank is seeking more than $400,000 from an Alabama lawmaker, saying he failed to make payments laid out in a previous settlement over a home equity loan.
House Majority Leader Micky Hammon, a Decatur Republican, tells the Decatur Daily that he has always paid his bills and will let the courts resolve the disagreement (http://bit.ly/1sYgOFy ).
Regions Bank originally filed suit against Hammon in 2012. Court files say Hammon took a $305,000 home equity line of credit in 2006 using a Florida condominium as collateral.
The bank's latest filing says Hammon didn't make the final payment required by a settlement in the 2012 suit but made monthly payments totaling nearly $20,000 through April 2013.
Regions is asking for $410,388, including attorney fees. Hammon's attorney says those fees are excessive.
