TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Ministers, mayors, engineers and other officials from Tripoli will meet this week to review development and infrastructure projects as well as the obstacles facing Lebanon’s second-largest city and ways to overcome them.
The one-day workshop is aimed at creating “a positive atmosphere to encourage businessmen in Tripoli and the north and entire Lebanon, particularly young people, to inject capital investment in projects and create job opportunities,” Abdul-Ghani Kabbara told a news conference.
Kabbara, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s adviser for north Lebanon, said the workshop also aimed to “restore the economic life” to Tripoli after the city was exhausted by at least 20 rounds of gunbattles linked to the Syrian crisis.
The workshop will be held Saturday at the Engineers Association in Tripoli.
Among the participants will be Economy Minister Alain Hakim, former Finance Minister Raya al-Hasan, head of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Nabil Jisr, Tripoli’s Mayor Nader Ghazal as well as Ogero General Director Abdul-Monem Youssef and the director general of the Tripoli port, Ahmad Tamer.
