BEIRUT: Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon Sunday called on political actors to keep Lebanon out of the regional conflicts to allow its citizens to prosper.
“From Live, Love Lebanon to Live Achrafieh, the slogans and titles say: Hold Lebanon apart [from regional crises]... and let the people live and be creative,” Pharaon said, addressing crowds at Live Achrafieh, a public event hosted on Sassine Square, Beirut.
“[Ashrafieh] was not afraid of the terrorists who used to plant bombs in its neighborhoods then go sleep at their own homes,” Pharaon said, implying terrorists who are residents of Lebanon. “And neither will it be afraid today of those who [plant] bombs and then sleep at hotels because no homes [accept to] host them.”
The event was attended by MPs Nadim Gemayel and Serge Torsarkissian and representatives of Beirut’s municipality and Ashrafieh’s mukhtars.
Live Achrafieh had been postponed for a week because of the recent security events in the country. Commenting on that, Pharaon praised the security forces and their efforts to confront terrorism. These efforts contribute, he added, to the creation of “a new dynamic of refusing both terrorism and the disruption of the presidential elections.”
