BEIRUT: The environment ministry encouraged Lebanese youth to take photographs that will preserve the image of Lebanon's natural landscape Monday, in the third edition of Green your Screen Competition starting July 1.
“The aim of this contest is to encourage people to return to nature through scenic images that embody the beauty and creativity in Lebanon. In order to show a beautiful image of the country in light of all the negative visuals the security situation brings along,” Camille el Rayyes, one of the organizers of the completion told The Daily Star.
The contest is targeting photographers with a Lebanese nationality aged fifteen and above. Participants are asked to submit a captivating digital nature shot of a Lebanese landscape. The submitted photo must also be accompanied by a description in either Arabic or English.
Submissions are to be made on http://bit.ly/1rPyGRL, starting July 1, where users will fill a request form that allows them to create a profile and submit up to five images.
“In the next two days the website will be transformed in to a social media network. Users will be able to share photos and provide feedback through comments and likes,” said Rayyes.
The judgment process will be exercised by an independent panel of judges in two phases. The first will narrow down the submissions into a top ten, before selecting the first, second and third prize winners.
The evaluation criteria will based on Facebook likes and creativity, alongside the quality of the picture’s frame, colors and expressions.
The panel of judges consists of Lebanese artist Bernard Renno, Lebanese Photographer Jean Pierre Tarabay and nature enthusiast Michel Esta.
The top three photographs will be published in a local magazine and the three winners will get a one night stay at the Chouf Cedar reserve. The first place winner however will have a cedar tree planted in his name.
The top three prizes all include a Canon camera. The winning photographer will get a Canon Pro, while the second and third placed will also receive Canon cameras of a lesser grade.
The strongest three contenders will also receive other prizes estimated at a total value of $2,500, $1,500 and $700 dollars for first, second and third place.
The competition, organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Chouf Cedar Reserve, will start receiving submissions as of 9:00 a.m. on July 1, 2014. The deadline for participation is set for 11:00 p.m. on August 1, 2014.
