Crowley hospital to become Acadia General Hospital


Crowley's American Legion Hospital will become Acadia General Hospital as Lafayette General Health takes over management of the 178-bed facility in June.


The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/RqO7TF ) Lafayette General Health and American Legion Hospital officials signed transfer management documents during a ceremony Tuesday.


The management takeover won't take effect until June 2. Lafayette General Health's acquisition of management and operations of the Crowley hospital is pending approval by the Attorney General's Office.


The hospital was established by members of American Legion Acadia Post No. 15 in 1929 as Legion Memorial Hospital.


It's been known as American Legion Hospital since 1950 and the American Legion Corp. will retain ownership of the facility.
