LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Lafayette Regional Airport Commission is leaning toward repairing rather than resurfacing a runway in which more than 500 small holes developed after a $6 million overlay project.
The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1swqVPg ) the commission voted Wednesday to direct its engineering consultant, URS, to work with the contractor and staff to prepare a change order for repairing holes in the main airport runway and sealing the asphalt.
William Griffin, senior project manager of URS, says the other option would be to require the contractor, Diamond B, to remove as much as 2 inches of asphalt and replace it.
But Griffin did not recommend that option to the Airport Commission because it would put the runway out of service for an extended period of time and be an inconvenience.
