Bay Area April home sales, price up from March

A real estate tracking firm says the number of homes sold in the nine-county San Francisco Bay region last month was flat compared to a year earlier period but the median price rose as potential buyers faced limited supply.

DataQuick reports Wednesday that 7,555 new and resale houses and condos were sold in April, up nearly 20 percent over March but down just under 1 percent from April 2013.

San Diego-based DataQuick says the median price rose last month to $610,000, the highest level since it was $629,500 in November 2007. Last month's median was a 5.4 percent increase over March and a 19.6 percent increase over April last year.

DataQuick analyst John Karevoll says he expects to soon see more homes being put up for sale in the region.
