Baalbek residents protest Army measures


BEIRUT: Several residents of of Baalbek, east Lebanon, blocked a vital road in the area Saturday in protest of the Army’s security measures including recent arrests.


Using burning tires, residents of the Sharawneh neighborhood, where the Army conducted several raids a day earlier, blocked the road leading to downtown Baalek, crippling traffic in the city.


Gunmen also fired shots into the air.


The Army, which has launched a security plan to restore law and order in the country, deployed additional military units to Sharawneh and reopened the street.
