TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Seven soldiers and six civilians were wounded in the northern city of Tripoli late Saturday when a suspect threw a hand grenade at a military unit during a raid.
The Army later apprehended Omar al-Hajj Youssef, known as Omar Hakim, in the Zahireya neighborhood, confiscating a gun in his possession, the military said in a statement, adding that two of the wounded soldiers were Army officers. The civilians were identified as Maher Hajj Youssef, Leila Youssed, Mohammad Khaled alHajj, Samiya al-Wali and Shadi Youssef.
In another raid in Tripoli's fish market, a group of young men attempted to stop the military from detaining a suspect identified as Bilal al-Hajj Youssef, prompting soldiers to fire several shots into the air to disperse the men.
Youssef was later detained.
The Army has faced similar obstructions in Tripoli as it carried out a security plant to restore law and order to the restive city, plagued by intermittent clashes between supporters and opponents of President Bashar Assad.
Meanwhile, one soldier was killed and three others were wounded when the military truck they were riding in overturned in north Lebanon.
The truck slid and overturned on Al-Hisheh road in Wadi Khaled.
