JUNEAU, Alaska -- The Senate Finance Committee has unveiled a draft capital budget, totaling about $1.9 billion for next year.
Additional changes are expected before a bill advances, including plans for addressing a new power plant at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
The bill includes $10 million of the $42.7 million Gov. Sean Parnell had requested for the Susitna-Watana hydro project.
Parnell had made $32.7 million of the request contingent upon the Alaska Energy Authority securing land-access agreements for project-related field work. The authority announced it had reached agreement Friday. But committee co-chair Kevin Meyer said the focus has been on pursuing a gas line project and this would essentially put the project on the back-burner, as the gas line effort continues.
