Three killed as lightning strikes home in Mount Lebanon

BEIRUT: Lightning struck Thursday a prefabricated house that belongs to a monastery in the Metn region of Brummana, Mount Lebanon, killing an elderly man, his sister and his daughter.

Security sources said a lightning bolt hit the prefab home early in the morning causing a gas cylinder to explode and setting off a fire that killed 77-year-old Habib Sabaalani, his sister, 72, and his daughter, 40.

The house belongs to Mar Chaaya monastery where Habib worked.

Lebanon has a low lightning-related death rate.
